This comprehensive two day course is designed for therapists who want to enhance their theoretical knowledge to be better able to problem solve and design treatment programs for a variety of common hand injuries. The course addresses anatomy of the hand and management of various conditions through lecture, and slide presentation. Video clips and animation of pathomechanics and treatment are presented to further enhance the educational experience.

 Course Objectives:

Upon completion of course, therapist will:

  • identify the anatomy of the hand
  • recognize and demonstrate the various methods used in evaluation of the hand and its dysfunction
  • identify the different types of flexor and extensor tendon injuries, and management of various zones
  • identify different methods of management of fractures of the wrist and hand
  • recognize the principles and techniques used for a variety of common hand injuries

  • flexor tendon anatomy and management
  • extensor tendon anatomy and management
  • management of hand fractures
  • management of distal radius fractures
  • pip joint injuries

CE Credits

14 contact hours in upper extremity and hand therapy education

Accepted by many professional credentialing organizations and state professional regulatory boards. Check with your state board/credentialing agency to verify. Certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants upon completion of the course and may be used for CEU verification of credits. CE Credits vary by state. Please check with your state board/certifying agency to confirm conversion of contact hours to CE. See links below.

Physical Therapy Board of California: The Physical Therapy Board of California recognizes Rehab Education, LLC as an approval agency to approve providers offering continuing competency courses for CA licensed PTs and PTAs. This course is approved for 14 contact hours.

Illinois State Board of Physical Therapy: Approved CE Sponsor by Illinois State Board of Physical Therapy, Division of Professional Regulations, #216.000227 for courses completed by 09-30-2014.

North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners: This course has been approved by virtue of Illinois CE Provider Approval #216.000227 for 14 contact hours. Course must be completed by 09-30-2014).

New Jersey State Board Physical Therapy: This course has been approved by the New Jersey State Board Physical Therapy for 14 contact hours. Approval #668-2012. (Course must be completed by 01-31-2014).

NY State Physical Therapy Board: Rehab Education, LLC is recognized as an approved provider for courses completed by 05-10-2016 of PT and PTA continuing education by the NY State Education Department Board of Physical Therapy.

Ohio Physical Therapy Association: This course has been approved by the Ohio PT Association for 14 contact hours. Approval #13S0155. (Course must be completed between 10/18/2013 and 10/18/2014)

Virginia Board of Physical Therapy : This course has been approved by virtue of Illinois CE Provider Approval #216.000227 for 14 contact hours. (Course must be completed by 09-30-2014).

BOC Approved Provider #P8271: Rehab Education, LLC is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers for courses completed by 12-31-2013.

Shrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT

Shrikant J. ChinchalkarShrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT is a hand therapist at the Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph's Health Centre in London, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Nagpur University, India in 1971.

He has over 35 years of clinical experience in treating upper extremity conditions. Shrikant has conducted instructional courses on "Biomechanics of the Hand" at the American Society for the Surgery of the Hand, the American Association of Hand Surgery, the American Society of Hand Therapists, Australian Hand Therapy Association, South African Society of Hand Therapists and Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists' annual meetings.

He has presented papers and has conducted instructional courses on "Upper Extremity Rehabilitation" in Canada, USA, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, Belgium, Italy, France, Greece, Finland, UK, South Africa, India, Spain, Turkey and Venezuela.  Shrikant was awarded the 2003 "Paul Brand Award of Excellence in Hand Therapy" by the American Society of Hand Therapists. He received the "Best Clinical Paper" and "Best Poster Presentation" awards at the annual meeting of ASHT and an "Award of Excellence" by the Sisters of St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario. He received an "Outstanding Alumnae" award by the All India Occupational Therapists Association in 2008. He has published papers and abstracts in numerous journals related to Upper Extremity Surgery and Therapy.
