Unique to this program is:

  1. extensive critical thinking and problem solving for individualized patient care in all aspects of treatment;
  2. therapist teaching therapists an integrated, practical (realistic) approach which is applicable to the American reimbursement system;
  3. Critical problem solving related to Co-morbidities.

One half of the class is devoted to lymph system anatomy and physiology integrated into treatment approaches, critical thinking, Co-morbidities, evaluation/assessment/insurance coding, skin care, exercise, and patient self management. The other half of the course consists primarily of lab time covering MLT and Pump Point techniques with time also devoted to topics such as garments, entry level Kinesiotaping and Myfacial Release (MFR) for edema.

Program subject to change. Participants are cautioned to apply new information and skills within the scope of state licensure law.

  • explain the interdisciplinary treatment provided by cancer specialists and relation to lymphedema and therapist's lymphedema treatment
  • demonstrate and apply the four "pillars" of lymphedema treatment: MLT, low stretch bandaging, exercise/self management, and skin care to patient treatment programs
  • develop and implement 1 hour therapist intensive treatment sessions with outcomes equal to or better than the 2 to 3 hour therapist intensive treatment sessions.
  • evaluate and establish a POC for a patient with either primary or secondary upper or lower extremity lymphedema
  • demonstrate critical problem solving skills to successfully treat patients with venous induced lymphedema and wounds.
  • create a patient self management, measurement, MLT, and precaution program related to case studies
  • evaluate and create individualize treatment programs for sub-acute lower extremity orthopedic edema and FOR lymphedema from venous insufficiency
  • demonstrate the following manual skills and identify when to apply these techniques: introductory kinesiotaping, MFR, and scar management related to lymphedema treatment
