This two day course is designed to provide participants with an introduction to the Neuro-IFRAH® principles of management and a practical application of these principles to increase function. Participants will be able to apply the information learned in a variety of treatment settings including acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, home care, and skilled nursing facilities.

This course will consist of interactive lecture and hands on lab. Lab sessions will emphasize the development of patient handling skills through working with other participants. Information will be shared by lecture, lab and possibly using video or other visual aids.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be Neuro-IFRAH Trained®.

 Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the basic principles of management of the Neuro-IFRAH® approach.
  • Identify handling guidelines related to the Neuro-IFRAH® approach.
  • Identify concepts related to the framework for normal movement.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal movement in function.
  • Identify the missing components of movement that are interfering with patients’ abilities to function at a higher level.
  • Apply handling techniques to help attain the missing components of movement that are interfering with functioning at higher levels.
  • Integrate concepts related to normal movement, principles of management, handling guidelines, and handling techniques into ADLs and other functional activities.

Upon successful completion of the course, participant will be Neuro-IFRAH Trained®.

CE Credits

14 contact hours

NBCOT and HTCC: Accepted by NBCOT*, HTCC+, and many state professional regulatory boards. Check with your state board/credentialing agency to verify. Certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants upon completion of the workshop and may be used for CEU verification of credits. CE Credits vary by state. Please check with your state board/certifying agency to confirm conversion of contact hours to CE. See links below.

Mary Linder, OTR/L, Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® Neuro-IFRAH Specialist®
received her degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Tennessee in 1994. Mary works in inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient. She has served as team lead and Director of Clinical Services over inpatient and outpatient PT, OT and ST. She has specialized in the treatment of adults with stroke and brain injury since 1999 and continues to be mentored by Waleed Al-Oboudi, MOT, OTR, author of the Neuro-IFRAH®. She became a clinical educator with Healthsouth in 2001.

Mary finished the Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® Training Program in August 2004. She was issued her Neuro-IFRAH specialist® certificate in July 2006. Mary is an instructor for introductory and intermediate courses as well as introductory course for nurses, the 98 contact hour certification course and the Advanced Upper Extremity Course. She currently works at HEALTHSOUTH Rehabilitation Hospital per diem and treats private patients.

Megan Warr, OTR/L, Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® Neuro-IFRAH Specialist® received her degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Tennessee in 1992. Megan has worked throughout the continuum of care in Acute/Trauma ICU, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Out Patient, Skilled Care and Home Health. She has specialized in the treatment of adults with stroke and brain injury since 1996 and continues to be mentored by Waleed Al-Oboudi, MOT, OTR, author of the Neuro-IFRAH®.
