Chapter 24: Dupuytren's Disease
This chapter addresses the evaluation and treatment of patients who are recovering from hand surgery for Dupuytren’s disease. Pathology, indications for surgery and operative techniques are reviewed in detail with an explanation of the most common post-operative complications.
Photographs illustrate pre and post-operative hands at different stages of recovery and splinting options. Review of hand therapy treatment includes: wound care, scar and edema management, exercise and splinting. Clinical reasoning considerations are provided regarding progression of various therapy treatments and splinting.
Highlighted throughout the chapter are:

- and the role of the therapy assistant.

- describe the different theories for the etiology of Dupuytren's disease
- describe the pathology, diagnosis and operative treatment for Dupuytren's disease
- identify indications for surgery and surgical techniques including: fasciotomy, fasciectomy, selective fasciectomy and dermofasciectomy
- describe potential complications from surgery
- describe post-op therapy treatment including: wound care, scar and edema management, exercise and splinting
