The Hand: An Analytical Approach to Hand Rehabilitation


A great hand therapy review course for the hand therapy certification exam!
This comprehensive two day course provides an analytical approach to hand rehabilitation for therapists who want to enhance their theoretical knowledge to be better able to problem solve and design treatment programs for a variety of upper extremity conditions.

Lecture includes video clips and animation of pathomechanics, treatment, cadaver dissection, and surgery to further enhance the educational experience.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of course, therapist will:

  • recognize the architecture and muscle physiology of the hand
  • identify the  effects of wound healing on hand biomechanics
  • identify how to analyze vectors that cause an imbalance of the hand
  • recognize and demonstrate techniques used to treat the pathomechanics of various hand deformities
  • recognize and differentiate the mechanism of digital flexion and extension
  • design and write a treatment plan for a variety of hand conditions

Instructors:

Shrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT

Shrikant-J-Chinchalkaris a hand therapist with over 40 years of clinical experience in treating upper extremity conditions and over 30 years of teaching experience. He designed and developed Hand Therapy programs at four major teaching centers in Canada. He conducted many instructional courses on upper extremity rehabilitation in over 20 countries in the world and has won many awards for his presentations. He has over 250 presentations to his credit.

He was awarded the “Dr. Paul Brand Award of Excellence” by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), “Award of Leadership” by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), “Award of Excellence” by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Hospital, “Best Educator” by the  Western University and the “Lifetime Membership Award” by the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists. He authored five book chapters and has published 27 papers and 15 abstracts in numerous peer-reviewed journals related to Upper Extremity Surgery and Therapy.
