Specialty Pediatric Concepts of the Kinesio Taping® Method (Formerly KT4)

Participants will have completed Kinesio University approved Day 1&2 and Day 3 seminars prior to enrolling in KT4 Pediatrics.

A Kinesio University approved course. The KT4 Pediatrics course is designed to provide advanced Kinesio Taping techniques and problem-solving to physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers, and other health professionals specializing in pediatrics.

Kinesio Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders. Kinesio Taping can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapeutic interventions.

Attendees will review theory and basic taping techniques, learn advanced and combination techniques, and develop clinical reasoning skills relevant to the pediatric population. The course (lecture and lab) will also provide commonly used taping techniques for specific diagnoses, including cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, torticollis, and brachial plexus injury; as well as pediatric sports related injuries.

Program subject to change. Participants are cautioned to apply new information and skills within the scope of state licensure law.

During hands-on lab sessions, course instructor(s) will evaluate each participant’s techniques/skills learned to determine proficiency for course completion. Post test at end of course will assess your new knowledge.

Please bring scissors and wear proper attire for taping (tank top & shorts). Bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, including the lecture, demonstration and lab, the participant will be able to:

  • Develop proficient knowledge of basic Kinesio Taping principles, properties, and techniques.
  • Be able to identify three specific muscle synergies/patterns and Kinesio Taping techniques to facilitate muscle balance and alignment.
  • Learn four advanced Kinesio Taping techniques.
  • Become familiar with commonly used Kinesio Taping techniques for specific pediatric diagnoses.
  • Be exposed to adjunctive treatment options for specific pediatric diagnosis.
  • Be involved with problem solving strategies for treatment utilizing Kinesio Taping.

CE Credits

7.5 contact hours

This course is accepted by many professional credentialing organizations and state professional regulatory boards. Rules and regulations change frequently without notification, and apply differently to live and online courses. Please check with your state board to confirm accuracy of this list and acceptance of contact hours. Certificate of Attendance will be issued to all participants upon completion of the course and may be used for CEU verification of credits. CE credits vary by state. IMPORTANT INFORMATION  for Athletic Trainers:
This course does not qualify for Category A credits through the BOC. The Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers no longer accepts Category A  continuing education credits for any CE classes that apply to a single product brand.   Athletic Trainers are encouraged to contact the BOC to confirm acceptance of CEUs as Category D prior to registering for KinesioTaping CE courses. A certificate of course attendance will be provided upon course completion.

 

Physical Therapy Board of California: The Physical Therapy Board of California recognizes Rehab Education, LLC as an approval agency to approve providers offering continuing competency courses for CA licensed PTs and PTAs. This course is approved for 8 contact hours.

Instructors:

Teresa Juodawlkis Pesci, MPT, CKTI

received her Master’s in Physical Therapy from the University of California: San Francisco in 1994. She has worked at Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, California, the William Beaumont Rehab Center in Birmingham, Michigan, the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, the University of Michigan – Visiting Nurses and at the Abilities Center, a branch of the Detroit Institute for Children. She is currently working for Kids in Motion. Her interest areas are the birth to three population, infant massage, yoga for the special child and therapeutic taping. She has practiced in the following settings: inpatient, acute rehab, PICU, outpatient, interdisciplinary clinics (NICU follow-up, Movement Disorders, Spina Bifida, Hemophilia, and JRA), school and home. While most of her career has focused on pediatrics, she has experience in treating everything from birth to geriatrics. Mrs. Pesci has been using a variety of taping practices throughout her career. She is a certified Kinesio Taping instructor through the Kinesio Taping Association.
