This comprehensive two day course is designed for therapists who want to enhance their theoretical knowledge to be better able to problem solve and design treatment programs for a variety of common hand injuries. The course addresses anatomy of the hand and management of various conditions through lecture, and slide presentation. Video clips and animation of pathomechanics and treatment are presented to further enhance the educational experience.
Program subject to change. Participants are cautioned to apply new information and skills within the scope of state licensure law.
During hands-on lab sessions, course instructor(s) will evaluate each participant’s techniques/skills learned to determine proficiency for course completion. Post test at end of course will assess your new knowledge.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of course, therapist will:
- identify the anatomy of the hand
- recognize and demonstrate the various methods used in evaluation of the hand and its dysfunction
- identify the different types of flexor and extensor tendon injuries, and management of various zones
- identify different methods of management of fractures of the wrist and hand
- recognize the principles and techniques used for a variety of common hand injuries

Shrikant J. Chinchalkar OTR, CHT is a hand therapist at the Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Centre in London, Ontario, Canada. He has over 40 years of clinical experience in treating upper extremity conditions and over 30 years of teaching experience. He designed and developed Hand Therapy programs at four major teaching centers in Canada. He conducted many instructional courses on upper extremity rehabilitation in over 20 countries in the world and has won many awards for his presentations. He has over 250 presentations to his credit.
He was awarded the “Dr. Paul Brand Award of Excellence” by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), “Award of Leadership” by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), “Award of Excellence” by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Hospital, “Best Educator” by the Western University and the “Lifetime Membership Award” by the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists. He authored five book chapters and has published 27 papers and 15 abstracts in numerous peer-reviewed journals related to Upper Extremity Surgery and Therapy.
